The Importance of Voting

For someone like myself the presentation on voting was very critical to my point of view. My dad was going to take me to register to vote, but I refused. I basically said I am not going to vote for a bunch of liars. I see elections as a joke. I don’t like how presidential candidates go about arguing with each other. Mostly I realize they put down each other’s opinions, rather than just explaining their own.  I consider myself a very opinionated person, and I find that false advertising when it comes to something very critical isn’t what I want to be apart of. I don’t like being promised, and having those promises broken. Before the presentation I never really had done the proper research on the people running, and always considered my vote as unimportant.
The presenters that day not only talked about in state elections, but also presidential elections. Some may seem less important than others, but actually they are all important. You need to know about the people that want to take power of the government. What they emphasized was not paying attention to the ads they put out in the media, but the candidates voting records. Sometimes their words aren't truthful, they like to say what the people want to here. When voting, a person must have a strong opinion on the major issues and make sure the person you aspire to vote for feels the same. So before you vote, make sure you are voting for a person that has the same, or almost equivalent opinions as yourself.
During the presentation the students were also showing us polls from different states. People from Florida are actually necessary when it comes to the voting process. When it comes down to the percentiles, we are usually a state that flip flops each voting period, which means sometimes the majority votes for the republican candidate or the democratic candidate. One vote could make a great difference in who becomes the president, or governor. Anyone, maybe myself, can be the one person needed to boost a candidate a percent, making them win the election.
After the presentation my views on voting definitely changed. Now that I have heard the powerful words of other students knowing what it’s like to begin to vote, I have considered altering my original decision. I want to vote. I want to have the vote that not only matters but can also make a very significant difference. Although other students might ask why I am taking this so seriously… I’d answer, WHY AREN’T YOU TAKING IT SERIOUSLY? When it comes down to someone being in command of a country, community, or state, you are placing not only your life, but also everyone else’s’ in that one person’s hands. It is a difficult task to make decisions for other people. But if we all vote for the person that satisfies your choices it could make a huge impact on our government. This presentation whether you were present or absent that day was highly informative.
