The Importance of Voting

For someone like myself the presentation on voting was very critical to my point of view. My dad was going to take me to register to vote, but I refused. I basically said I am not going to vote for a bunch of liars. I see elections as a joke. I don’t like how presidential candidates go about arguing with each other. Mostly I realize they put down each other’s opinions, rather than just explaining their own.  I consider myself a very opinionated person, and I find that false advertising when it comes to something very critical isn’t what I want to be apart of. I don’t like being promised, and having those promises broken. Before the presentation I never really had done the proper research on the people running, and always considered my vote as unimportant.
The presenters that day not only talked about in state elections, but also presidential elections. Some may seem less important than others, but actually they are all important. You need to know about the people that want to take power of the government. What they emphasized was not paying attention to the ads they put out in the media, but the candidates voting records. Sometimes their words aren't truthful, they like to say what the people want to here. When voting, a person must have a strong opinion on the major issues and make sure the person you aspire to vote for feels the same. So before you vote, make sure you are voting for a person that has the same, or almost equivalent opinions as yourself.
During the presentation the students were also showing us polls from different states. People from Florida are actually necessary when it comes to the voting process. When it comes down to the percentiles, we are usually a state that flip flops each voting period, which means sometimes the majority votes for the republican candidate or the democratic candidate. One vote could make a great difference in who becomes the president, or governor. Anyone, maybe myself, can be the one person needed to boost a candidate a percent, making them win the election.
After the presentation my views on voting definitely changed. Now that I have heard the powerful words of other students knowing what it’s like to begin to vote, I have considered altering my original decision. I want to vote. I want to have the vote that not only matters but can also make a very significant difference. Although other students might ask why I am taking this so seriously… I’d answer, WHY AREN’T YOU TAKING IT SERIOUSLY? When it comes down to someone being in command of a country, community, or state, you are placing not only your life, but also everyone else’s’ in that one person’s hands. It is a difficult task to make decisions for other people. But if we all vote for the person that satisfies your choices it could make a huge impact on our government. This presentation whether you were present or absent that day was highly informative.

ITS 2041!

My loud, and obnoxious touch screen alarm goes off. I wake up, and go to the menu of my alarm clock, and I press the shower button, which teleported me to my shower. Everything in my shower is voice activated, "Shower on, set to 80 degrees Fahrenheit". After my shower, I then walk to my closet. My closet is voice operated, always updated with the newest styles, and recommends outfits best for the weather outside. After I'm dressed, I then walk to my kitchen asking my Food Bot (a robot powered to make anything your heart desires, for breakfast, lunch, or dinner) to make me blueberry pancakes. Then I proceed back to my bathroom to continue getting ready.  My morning activities are finished, and I walk to the garage, hopping in my flying car. Although originally difficult to control, everyone was required to attend a flight class, before receiving their vehicle. What's cool about the car is, as soon as I get to school, I click auto valet, which parks itself in the garage. The class rooms at school are extraordinary. The professors are no longer in the classroom. He/she is just a massive projection in the center of the room. Books? They are all on our ipads, no need for paper. During the day instead of walking from class to class, everyone rides the elevator. Press a certain button and it will take you to any class that you need to get to. Efficient huh? I think so! As for what we are learning, you can take any class you'd like. The only difference is, is that nothing is questioned because it can be proven due to our advanced technology and science.

Food Ad.

In my perception, an effective advertisement has a catchy slogan, or picture that will get the attention of its viewers. For instance, the ad that I chose was Heinz Ketchup, I use it, so saying that it has less sugar and contains more tomato, I'd probably buy it. Personally, I don't really mind if I have the "most popular" brands, as long as it's the same product and a reasonable price I don't see a difference. I don't particularly get swayed by celebrity endorsements, I consider it a joke, because for all you know they don't actually like the product, they're doing it for the money. Jingles, I think, are a great way to get an ad across, because it gets stuck in my head, and you'll sometimes find me singing to them if they come up on tv.

The ad that I chose is advertising a new product of Heinz ketchup, less sugar, and more tomato. It bribes you by saying "NO SIN" in bold letters. When bold letters are used, and are placed in the middle of the page, its the first thing that grabs your attention. Also, the ad goes a step further by having a picture of a delicious looking tomato. This definitely is going to have a desirable effect, because it seems to be healthier. I don't consider it to be untruthful or manipulative, it doesn't say no sugar, but less sugar, making it some what healthier for you.

Footprint Calculator

An ecological footprint is a measure of human demand on Earth's ecosystems. Sustainability is to conserve an ecological balance without depleting Earth's natural resources. Which means, that in order to live in a sustainable environment, our footprint must be at a reasonable level. If we don't avoid depletion of our resources, eventually things will become extinct. We use this measure to interpret our life choices by deciding which actions we shouldn't take, whether its from buying packaged food, or buying a car with very low millage.
I'm not the type of person to waste anything, I'd like to think that I care for the environment. Its our house, everyone should treat it with respect. I find this to be embarrassing... My footprint was calculated to 5.2 Earths, and requires 23.1 acres to support my lifestyle. To decrease my ecological footprint, I'd have to decrease the amount of gas I use, and the amount of packaged food I eat. Living on campus will decrease my footprint because I'd drive less, due to the shuttles, and also eating at Sovi.

Introducing me :)

Well to begin, my name is Ashley Michelle Hoffman. I’m from Hollywood, Florida, which is about 1, and half away from here, near Miami basically for those who don’t know what Hollywood is. I am a Gemini, born June 14th 1993, which would make me 18 years old.  Like I said in class, I have been playing piano for the past seven years. It’s a funny situation actually, because at first I despised it.  As a couple months passed, it became a part of me, and actually one of my greatest stress relievers. Anytime I was having a rough day, I’d sit down at the piano and just play a piece of music. I am Jewish, although the majority of my mom’s side are Catholic. When it comes to family, my family is very close. Most of my family lives scattered through the coasts, but for the family that is in Florida we see each other at least 3 times a week. Our family sticks together no matter what the case. An example would be, my little cousin was diagnosed with a very rare cancer in 2007, he recently passed away, but we did what ever we could to raise money for our Mystic Force Foundation (for Neuroblastoma), from walk-a-thons- to visiting him in the various hospitals he was transferred to, and to his last breaths, our whole family was by his side. I have one biological sister, and an adopted sister, who was once my cousin. It’s a confusing story, but long story short; she’s lived with us basically her whole life. At FGCU I am majoring in Chemistry, I am hoping to make a career in the medical field some day. I flip flop sometimes, one day I go from aspiring to be a neurosurgeon, next a pediatric oncologist, and last an anesthesiologist. My parents keep me motivated, and continue to encourage me in conquering every goal I want to achieve.
